Gender-based violence (GBV) affects the entire life cycle of women and girls. Perpetrators can be family members, people in positions of trust or power, or strangers — and physical, economic and emotional violence often reinforce each other.
The fear of violence strains the self-esteem of women and girls and limits their mobility, access to resources, and social, economic and political participation. Because violence has an intergenerational impact — children tend to reproduce the gender roles they see at home — breaking the cycle matters for whole communities.
At the end of the workshop, participants were:
- Sensitised on their legal rights
- Equipped with knowledge of the types and extent of gender-based violence and its consequences
- Empowered with information on how to break the cycle of violence and build self-confidence
